It was failing to partition the liteon SSD to start the windows install: Wednesday, April 13, 1: Resources for IT Professionals. Well the ebay-ed R52 is here, I swapped everything over from the T43 into the R52 carcass, and reinstalled XP from some T42 inel discs. Wednesday, February 25, 9: Wednesday, May 26, 4: Possibly because the discs were intended for a T42 instead of a R52, I was missing 5 drivers.

It appears that during the upgrade, if your device contains inteel that either is or 82801cbm be incompatible with the OS, the driver is not installed during upgrade.
Proposed as answer by kube Sunday, July 10, If I attempt to install it through Thinkpad software installer it also always locks up my system so that I have to turn off the computer, turn it back on, and the unk device still remains as before in device manager on the R So please be aware that whilst you might fix the problem of the unknown device, your device 828801fbm become unstable in other ways due to the presence of this driver and you might have to uninstall it after all!
It will fix the Unknown device problem.

Click on Next and hey presto, the correct Windows 7 driver will be installed without any additional downloads. I used to use a program called radarsync that would automatically search interfacce download missing or outdated drivers but they recently started jnterface for their service.

Asrock Z87 Killer motherboard, mine was intel lpc controller 8c44, but I followed the same process and went to the very bottom of intel at the very end its like Controllet – Z87 LPC 8c44 and sure enough, the unknown device is 82801fmb, woohoo! This answer is the correct answer as it will apply to any device, not just Dell.
Did a bit more digging and found out that it is actually the Infra Red receiver, and I’ve now installed intefrace driver for it and the Unknown Device no longer shows.
